Irina Okula is a potter from Ipswich, MA who specializes in saggar firing. For over forty years Irina has travelled the world in pursuit of the art of ceramics. From Japanese teapots to Mayan ruins, from Chinese workshops to Native American wood firings, Irina has dedicated her life to learning about pottery, and teaching it to others.
Currently she is mastering the technique of saggar firing. By firing pots in a clay container, a "saggar" that has been filled with natural combustibles such as hay, sawdust and seaweed and wrapped with copper wire, string and tape, magical patterns appear on the pots.
